Wordles

I am intrigued by the Wordle website, where you can dump some text and turn it into a wordle. I don't think it is the best way to study a text, but it does show you the word frequency, excluding articles and conjunctions and some prepositions.

This one is taken from the book of Job in the ESV Bible. Like many books of the Bible, you will notice that the word God appears frequently. But which words occur most frequently in the books that never mention God [Esther and Song of Songs?]

Did Jesus really die?

A woman wrote to J. Vernon McGee: "Our preacher said that on Easter Jesus just swooned on the cross and that the disciples nursed him back to health. What do you think?" McGee replied, "Dear sister, beat your preacher with a leather whip for thirty-nine heavy strokes. Nail him to a cross. Hang him in the sun for six hours. Run a spear through his heart. Embalm him. Put him in an airless tomb for three days. Then see what happens."

from my friend Randy Davis, Louisiana pastor.

All those labels

I imagine the labelling I've added looks silly. But it helps me to find posts. I don't find it easy to get back to stuff here, and I've done this to make it easier for me. Easier for me, but uglier for you?

Wish I'd done the labelling previously, but!

How to live a miserable Christian life

I enjoy reading Erik Raymond's stuff in his Irish Calvinist blog. This series on how to live a miserable Christian life is a good example of the many good articles he writes.

Much loved

But who and by whom?
We feel greatly loved by our grandsons, Jerome and Hamish. They are excited when we visit and thrilled when they learn we are staying overnight.

In the morning they come down the stairs and call out expectantly, when we have been staying downstairs in the guest room.

One of their latest antics is to take us by the hand and lead us down to the rumpus room. How could you refuse? On our most recent visit, both boys stood either side of Gran and took her down for some play!

Much-maligned

More about John Calvin at Calvin 500

John Calvin must be one of the most maligned of people, but usually by those who know little about him. How much do you know? I got 8 out of 10 questions correct. I couldn't have beaten that score, even if I'd studied.

Magic photo

I know the lighting is poor, but I love this photo. I think my wife, Joan and our grandson look so happy: I stop every time I see it to look at it again.

It is a photo taken at our daughter's place. I took several and the lighting was better in all the others, but this one has those happy faces. Hamish is such a sweet little boy. He is our second grandson. [We have three]
